In my former life, I used to work as a boat captain in the Caribbean and Nantucket, and that's how I met my husband, and ultimately, met Charlie! Charlie is a boat captain too and he took over my husband's position as Captain aboard the most beautiful, classic yacht named Spartan. Over the years I've gotten to know Charlie and aside from his incredible passion for all things outdoors - mountain biking, surfing, sailing - I've always loved Charlie's enthusiasm for life, his genuine and giving personality, and his positive attitude. So when I met Lauren - BEAUTIFUL, smart, down-to-earth, and spunky, I knew Charlie had found "the one". And sure enough, Charlie and Lauren got engaged this past winter on Lauren's 25th birthday in their new home! When they asked me to be their wedding photographer, I could not have been more honored or excited to capture their love and marriage to one another.
One of the reasons I was SO excited to photograph Charlie & Lauren's wedding (aside from loving to photograph friends!!), was the venue. Holy Moly - the Providence Art Club is one of the best kept secrets in the wedding industry. Charlie's family has been members of the Club for generations, and it made perfect sense for he and Lauren to choose this eclectic, intimate location for both their ceremony and reception. Located right in downtown Providence, the Providence Art Club was established in 1880 to stimulate the appreciation of art in the community. It is an absolute gem - surrounded by historic homes, the First Baptist Church, and the campus of RISD. Inside are tons of rooms, some old and some new, but ALL the walls are covered in beautiful artwork - some amateur and some well known artists.
The ceremony was held outdoors in the little courtyard and the flowers by Busy Bee Florist were incredible! They truly set the stage for an intimate and special ceremony. Following the romantic ceremony, guests headed inside to the Main Gallery for cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and live jazz. It was such a neat setting, being surrounded by a vast array of artwork and tall ceilings. The guests were then ushered into another gallery for an extensive buffet and a live band with plenty of dancing!
I think what I loved most about Charlie & Lauren's wedding day, was that their focus on their marriage. They tried their best to avoid the pomp and circumstance, and just enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family, and sharing in the moments together that made the day so special. I don't know that I've ever seen Charlie look so completely happy, nor Lauren so radiant and timeless. It was truly a joy and honor to share in their celebration!
Congratulations Charlie & Lauren - may you always make each other smile and be each others best friend - welcome to the marriage club!
